Thank you for learning more about my story beyond the bite.

Meet Mike Ungaro

Mike Ungaro is the Co-Owner and CEO of San Pedro Fish Market, a favorite restaurant for locals. Known for their famous seafood!

CHILI CRAB

Chili Crab is ‘Making Some Noise’ At San Pedro Fish Market

The all-new Chili Crab dish at San Pedro Fish Market (SPFM) is making some serious noise!

Chili Crab recently debuted at San Pedro Fish Market’s newest location in Long Beach, California. It’s a zesty, mouthwatering, and tasty dish created by their super talented (and oh so funny) head chef, Frank DeLoach.

Chef Frank DeLoach

Chili Crab is packed with an incredible medley of flavors with plenty of kick to it. It’s served with garnishes of fresh cilantro and grilled limes.

Chef Frank uses soft shell crabs from Santa Barbara and adds tons of fresh ingredients to make a spicy, flavorful, and unique dish — or what Chef Frank describes as a dish that’s “loud” and “doesn’t suck.”

We at Public Market were fortunate enough to taste the Chili Crab Dish…

And we confirm that it absolutely “doesn’t suck.”

It’s full of flavor, delicious and fun to eat.

But first in this video below, we have owner and CEO Mike Ungaro whip up SPFM’s signature meal, the “World Famous Shrimp Tray.” at their original location in San Pedro, California.

Check out Mike Ungaro and Chef Frank prepare SPFM’s amazing seafood dishes here.

We also took on the World Famous Shrimp Tray. It’s a huge, mouthwatering feast with so many out-of-this-world flavors. You don’t know where to begin!

You can get these ready-to-eat trays at SPFM, or they can be shipped fresh to you.

San Pedro Fish Market has a total of four locations throughout Southern California.  There are two locations in San Pedro: the original San Pedro Fish Market and the Crusty Crab Fish Market right next door.

The other two locations are the San Pedro Fish Market in Long Beach and the San Pedro Fish Grille in Wilmington.

San Pedro is approximately 20 miles south of downtown Los Angeles. It’s also known as the Port of Los Angeles. The seafood enterprise first opened in 1956 and has been family owned and operated ever since.

San Pedro Fish Market is an award-winning, record setting SoCal destination. People travel from all over the world to feast on fresh seafood. Recently, the Los Angeles Times named San Pedro Fish Market as one of the top 25 places to visit in California.

The dining area at the San Pedro location has over 3,000 seats, making it the largest independently-owned restaurant west of the Mississippi.

Each year, nearly two million people visit SPFM to dine on fresh seafood, drink tasty, hand-crafted cocktails, and relax by the Pacific Ocean on a beautiful sunny SoCal day. That’s about as many annual visitors as Dodger Stadium!

On March 3, 2023, San Pedro Fish Market in San Pedro will be moving from their current location where they have been for over 65 years to a temporary one a few hundred yards away while a new waterfront restaurant and shopping district, West Harbor, is being constructed.

SPFM is truly a family affair, it’s been owned and managed by four generations of the Ungaro and Amalfitano families. Their ancestors immigrated to San Pedro from Italy at the turn of the last century.

In addition, four generations of families from San Pedro and the surrounding areas have been coming to SPFM to enjoy the food and scenery for over six decades.

Founder and Co-Owner Tommy Amalfitano recounts how generations of local Southern California families have been visiting SPFM since the beginning.

CEO and Co-Owner Michael Ungaro reflects on the history of SPFM and his Grandfather Mackie Ungaro’s vision for his fledgling business that today is a true seafood powerhouse.

San Pedro Fish Market also serves a wide array of delicious sandwiches, salads, appetizers, and has beautiful banquet facilities.

The Long Beach location also has Happy Hour Monday through Friday from 3pm to 7pm with incredible drink specials and mouthwatering appetizers like “Chowda Fries” (french fries topped with SPFM special spices and homemade clam chowder), Ceviche Tostadas, and Baja Fish Tacos.

“We let the customer design their own seafood trays. The tray is like an empty canvas and you can paint it any way you want.”
